Huge travel delays after massive lorry fire shuts M6 in both directions in West Midlands The Sun

A MASSIVE lorry fire closed the M6 in both directions in the West Midlands this morning.

The vehicle caught fire at junction seven, at Great Barr, during rush-hour traffic.

Nearby residents said they were forced to keep doors and windows shut as smoke billowed from the M6, which could be seen for miles as the inferno blazed.

Traffic had been described as "horrendous" by motorists already suffering from roadworks at the A38M Spaghetti Junction.

Since the blaze began at 8am, Highways England has reported that delays have been reduced to 30 minutes for traffic approaching the blaze scene on the M6.

Despite the southbound and northbound carriageways re-opening, queues remain backed up to J10a M54.

Drivers have complained that long tailbacks are delaying journeys by up to an hour.

Central Motorway Police Group just tweeted that the burnt-out lorry is being removed.
